The Vampire Diaries 6×04 ‘Black Hole Sun’ : “Perfect. Our savior’s insane and narcoleptic.”

What we have here is a theme; forgetting and escaping.  We’re going over and over Elena’s decision to forget Damon and Damon’s inability to forget the awful things he’s done as well as going over and over Stefan’s need to escape from his previous life and Malachi’s need to escape his prison.  There was no Caroline and very little anyone else…which I guess is fine, since this show has always been a love triangle, right?

There’s a lot happening with Damon, Bonnie, and Malachi.  Obviously, Damon and Bonnie want to escape.  So far, Bonnie seems just caught up in everyone else’s drama…I can’t find a clear reason she ended up in The Time Prison.  There seems to be evidence that Damon believes he is there because he once killed a pregnant woman.  But we learn that the prison is really because Malachi is a psycho witch with weird powers…he’s like a mutant witch or something.  Maybe he’ll become the next big villain.  But if The Time Prison is for Malachi, then how did Damon and Bonnie end up there?  Will we ever learn?  Anyway, the three of them are stuck, Bonnie has her magic back, Malachi has some magic tool to help them escape, everything is hunky-dory, right?  Except for Malachi being a mass murderer.  Whatever.  Every pro has a con, right?

Meanwhile, Stefan is proving to Elena that he can escape and needs to escape to create a new life, all while Stefan is prepping Elena to learn that she has chosen to escape her own reality.  I mean, I guess, whatever.  How is Stefan ever going to escape from Mystic Falls?  He’s a lead character, so we need him around, don’t we?  Can there be a Vampire Diaries without Stefan?  In the end, he straight up told Elena what she had chosen to do; erase her memories of Damon.  I’m not mad at him at all, and I was happy to find that Elena had a back up plan for this scenario.  I thought it was cool that she chose to stick to her guns and have her memories erased.  It was a little reminiscent of “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” wasn’t it?  I was digging it, though.

In other news, Caroline is…somewhere?  Tyler was just not around and there’s no mention of where he went or why?  Jeremy is mad because he wants to be mad and have feelings about all the drama in his life and everyone is trying to prevent him from doing so.  Alaric is the dad of the episode and has a thing for a hot doctor.  And Matt is trying to get in good with Tripp.  I can’t decide if Tripp is playing Matt, because Matt seems like the world’s worst liar.

What did you think?  Will Bonnie cave and let Malachi out or will he force her to do so?  Will Stefan and Elena rekindle their own flame?  What will Caroline get into now that Enzo is gone and we don’t have a Big Bad as of yet?  Will Tripp become the next Big Bad or Malachi or both or someone new?  Speculation is welcome, just leave it in the comments!
