This week The Fosters was very busy. Throughout the whole episode so many things were going on and I had to check how long was left in the episode because I needed some form of closure for each thing. I forgot how good this show could be.
Lets start with the Callie and Brandon [forbidden love] gate! Callie’s probation worker finds out about Callie’s involvement with Brandon and explains to Lena and Stef that this could potentially put her back in the system. ‘Jude-a-corn’ see’s the worker and begins to stress about getting regurgitated back into the system. Despite her lack of privileges and constant warnings Callie [quite stupidly] is still keeping in contact with Brandon by a secret phone. If the authority of Rita wasn’t enough then a retraining order given to Brandon to keep him away from Callie should do the trick right? Erm… nope not really! Callie rendezvous Brandon by sneaking off on a group outing, thankfully the girl who punched her in the face at juvy saves her! [Now they’re straight]
Cole tackles the constant issues thrown at him by society whilst out at the museum. He needs to go to bathroom and demands [rightly so] that he should be allowed to use the male bathroom. Obviously, a small minded male has something to say with his deranged opinion on trans-gendered individuals. Thankfully her fellow housemates stick up for her and it all kicks off which means the museum trip is ended.
Back at home the girls aren’t as supportive. I was like what?!?! At least they’re halfway there with standing up for him in the public eye. Yes, I understand that not all people can mentally grasp what Cole is going through. Through the usual bitchy ‘circle time’ Cole is attacked from all angles and told he is making it hard for himself. [ALL HE WANTED TO DO WAS PEE] Then, presumably speaking from experience, Callie tells everyone that she agrees with Cole and it’s easier for everyone else for Cole to identify himself as a girl BUT that doesn’t mean he should. Tell it gurl!
Meanwhile back at school, Marianna is asked to read lines [hook up] with Chase therefore pissing off her ‘friend’ Kelsey. Marianna naïvely agreed to it assuming it was just to read through lines but Kelsey tells her otherwise. Marianna being the better friend agrees to not read lines with Chase only to then be betrayed by Kelsey offering her line reading services. Bitch
[Poor] Zach tries his upmost hardest to get Marianna’s attention and I think everybody apart from Marianna knows that they’re perfectly matched! It’s a typical the-guy-you-need-is-right-in-front-of-you cliché. He even fixes her sewing machine but Marianna is blinded by rage for her friend Kelsey. The lines get blurred and Marianna and Chase end up kissing with two spectators from the wings – uh oh – poor Zach [nobody cares about you Kelsey because we know how you work] A green eyed Kelsey goes to one of her teachers and places the blame of the stolen hat on Marianna and also confesses about Marianna selling her drugs! Well done! Best friend award goes to you!
Jesus finds companionship in his new wrestler friend, Emma. They run to school together, she offers him advice and she listens to him talk about his new stressful eating habits. Having fought off a larger weight group in a wrestle, his teammates constantly tell him he ‘held his own’. Time for some slightly illegal hazing called the ‘Tunnel of Love’ [think what you may, I sure did] they all kind of push him down until bam – Mr. Beefy-higher-weight-group guy gives him a nice black eye!
Lena who is infuriated by the acts of violence within her school threatens the wrestling coach and his job [whoa chill out] a part of her anger comes from the anxiety she feels with Stef being back at work and not contacting her. Obviously there was a reasonable reason why Stef didn’t phone her but Lena, who is in hyper stress mode becomes very passive aggressive towards Stef.
Meanwhile Brandon’s words resonates through Stef’s mind [that Callie needs to know people care] and she decides to drop by ‘Girls-United’. Rita confronts her at the door and explains that she can’t just drop by like that and she has to wait until family day. I wanted Callie to run downstairs and hug her but she watched by the window and I want to say she looked happy so lets pretend her facial expression meant happiness. [Maybe it actually did I just couldn’t tell]
Brandon and Mike fight through their own demons and Brandon gives Mike a hard time about his drinking problem. I think it’s unfair for Brandon to bring everything up just because he’s sour about having to stay away from somebody he really likes. Fair enough life sucks but it doesn’t give him the right to shake out the demons in his father’s closet in such a brutal way.
I felt for Mike in these scenes because you could obviously see is trying to rectify his mistakes but at the moment Brandon is on a apathetic road kill towards anyone who isn’t Callie! Finally Mike silences Brandon by admitting that he is the love of his life and he understands what it’s likes to be away from the person you love the most! Mike leaves Brandon to think about things as well as giving him the money for his oh-so-expensive piano lessons. Brandon however has other ideas for this money [Callie’s emancipation]
Callie still gambling with her large amounts of luck sneaks downstairs to text Brandon only to be caught by Cole. The kitty kat is on her ninth life! Cole demands the phone of Callie and recycles Callie’s advice to her “Sometimes what’s right isn’t easy” Cole then takes it up on himself to text Brandon telling him it’s over! Uh-oh here we go…
I hope I haven’t missed anything and I know this one is longer than usual but I hope you enjoyed my review – let me know on your thoughts/opinions.
