The Blacklist 2×10 ‘Luther Braxton: Conclusion’: Call my bluff, please call my bluff

Blacklist 2x10.1

The conclusion to the two-part post-Super Bowl The Blacklist guest starring Ron Perlman. With The Factory in ruins Harold Cooper tries to rescue his team. Meanwhile Braxton has taken Lizzie in the hope of obtaining information about the elusive Fulcrum. Again this episode fails on delivery of an action-intensive story, but it makes up for it between Reddington’s scenes and the progress of the underlying serialized story. Here’s ‘Luther Braxton: Conclusion.’

WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS

The episode starts with The Factory on fire. Resler has gotten free, and fights with one of the guards while Samar hangs from her noose. Back at HQ Cooper wants to send people in, but Goodson isn’t interested in going into a facility that never existed with no confirmed survivors. Resler and Samar find Reddington, Lizzie was taken by Braxton in his get away chopper. Braxton brings Lizzie to a hospital in Alaska. Aram monitored air traffic and found a med evac chopper landed at the same hospital. Cooper calls for reinforcements. An SOS is received from The Factory, Cooper decides to send people in.

Meanwhile Braxton and his men water-board Lizzle in an attempt to reveal information on the Fulcrum, but she has no memory of it. Braxton visits his old psychiatrist Doctor Orchard (guest star Gloria Ruben, ER) and kidnaps her son Max as incentive for her help in opening Lizzie’s mind. Reddington calls Braxton with the henchman’s radio and warns him that he is in way over his head and that Reddington will get the last laugh, but Braxton doesn’t think so. Reddington tells Samar to look for people linked to Braxton with psychiatric training to extract memories. The Director (David Strathairn) decides to tell the public that the rig was a prison that was bombed after a prisoner riot got out of hand. Aram finds that Doctor Orchard is connected to Braxton, but is interrupted by Samar’s entrance giving her a massive hug. Doctor Orchard has found a way for memory erasing and helped Braxton remove a traumatic friendly fire event.

Cut to Doctor Orchard proceeds to start her therapy on Lizzie, drugging her bringing her back to the night of the fire. Resler and Samar go to Orchard’s house, and realize she has been taken by Braxton. Orchard manages to get Lizzie to unlock pieces of her memories of that night. She sees her younger self hiding in a closet with a rabbit. Meanwhile Reddington is running his own investigation by confronting Braxton’s associates, saying he is a loose cannon and to call if they hear from him. ‘What’s in it for us?’ ‘Life.’ Cooper gets a call from a doctor who sets up a meeting. So mysterious. Lizzie starts convulsing in her lucid state, but Orchard continues her treatment under Braxton’s orders. In her memory she jumps from the closet to running around some Christmas trees, but the pleasant memory fades and she is back in the closet. Lizzie leaves the closet to investigate and she starts convulsing more. She remembers her father was at the house. WHAT.

Red doesn’t look like he’s in a bargaining mood. Reddington beats the hell out of the guy after getting the address. Resler and Samar learn that Braxton visited with a med student in Alaska, find him and interrogate him about the drugs he gave Braxton. Orchard talks with Lizzie about hearing her father in the memory and she reveals the scar she got in the fire to the doctor. Suddenly she gets a call from her son Max, showing he’s alive, but Braxton grabs the phone and threatens his life if Orchard doesn’t get the information he desires. Cut to Braxton meeting with the Director in a church about obtaining the Fulcrum for him. The government is in bed with a criminal. Surprise surprise. Braxton says the price has gone up. He leaves the church, but Reddington is waiting for him. Dembe pulls a gun on Braxton and disarms him. Braxton brings up Belgrade again, Reddington doesn’t give a shit and tells him to get in the car.

She lays still. The house starts burning, but she’s dragged out by an unknown person. Resler and Samar enter the facility and tell Reddington to stop, but Orchard says they can’t without hurting her. Lizzie continues to remember bits and pieces of the fire. She remembers how she got the burn on her arm. She wakes up to see Reddington. ‘You were there.’

She realizes that Reddington was at her house to try and find the Fulcrum, and that the only reason he is in her life is to obtain this object. He does not care about her. He tries to help her up, but she doesn’t want him near her. She walks out as Reddington stares with a distraught look on his face. The Director enters his home discussing the Reddington problem when he notices Braxton hanging in his living room. Suddenly Reddington starts talking to him. He reveals that he knows that the Director used Braxton as an attempt to find the Fulcrum. The Director isn’t scared of Reddington and believes he doesn’t have the Fulcrum. ‘Call my bluff, please call my bluff.’ Aram and Samar seem to be having an intimate moment when Resler enters to show them the news.

Goodson has gone on the news to say that the facility uprising was started by Reddington and that his whereabouts are currently unknown. Cooper and his wife sit at the doctor waiting for some mysterious news. Cut to Lizzie sitting in her hotel room looking through a box of old memories before meeting with Orchard who reveals that during the therapy Lizzie showed signs of previous treatment meaning that someone blocked the memory when she was younger and she may never really know the real events of that night. She holds the rabbit, finding a weird seam. Upon opening it she finds a hidden container. COULD THIS BE THE ELUSIVE FULCRUM?!
