Supernatural 10×9 ‘The Things We Left Behind’ : “This vessel was ripped apart on a sub-atomic level.”

Soooo…it’s all family in this episode, even Castiel’s family, sort of.  We’ve got the brothers, bereft of any other family, being all brother like.  We’ve got Crowley and his mom, Rowena (who is up to no good), and we have Castiel’s meat suit’s daughter.  That poor girl has been all messed up by the fact that an angel took over her father’s body and then left her alone with her mother, who in turn left her with her grandma, who died and left her in foster care.  Sad, right?

I mean, I guess I’m supposed to feel about Claire’s post-angel-possession sob story, but I just don’t.  Almost everyone comes to the Winchesters because their closest peeps are determined to do them wrong or are a monster.  I’m not sure why I should care about this kid.  Which is kind of the point of this post here.  I don’t understand how Claire fits in or why we should care about her.  Is her life going to be important to the show?  I’m not sure where she fits in.  But I did think the girl was interesting, and I’m open to her being in the cast.  Supernatural always needs more chicks!

Rowena and Crowley look like they are shaping up to be some awesome dysfunctional family drama.  I mean, I like a guy who hates his mother enough to keep her locked up in a dungeon.  And I like a mom who lied to get out of that dungeon.  But I still wonder what Rowena’s end game in, because it’s clearly not aligned with hell.  I feel like Rowena is one of the Big Bads for this season, her and The Mark of Cain.  I want Rowena to have more screen time because I find her really interesting.

Oh, and the Winchesters…drama all the time!  OK, I’m really into how they are dealing with drama.  Instead of bickering little b*tches, they seem like actual brothers.  They seem concerned with each other and not totally selfish.  But I’m so over this Mark of Cain business.  I mean, just cut it off or something, right?!  I don’t think we’ve made it through one episode without some sideways glance and comment on the Mark.  I feel like the writers have some big surprise up there sleeve about how, like, the Mark of Cain can obliterate all demons in one fell swoop.  It would be a good series finale, right?  Ugh.  Whatever.  I’m just enjoying the Winchesters being nice and supportive and talking about things reasonably.

What did you think?  Are you a big fan of Rowena?  Are you enjoying that the monster-of-the-week episodes include old tertiary characters?  Do you have any idea what’s going on?  I’d love to hear your predictions!  Let me know in the comments!

is a native NEOhioan who loves winter, Lake Erie, and dramas from the WB and the CW. She’s not a big fan of reality tv, excluding the occasional competition show involving dancing or singing. She’s really into watching tv shows via Netflix or Hulu Plus…particularly Netflix, because watching shows in succession with no commercials is awesome. (She believes Netflix and other like services will eventually replace live tv.) When not watching tv, she’s training for a marathon, photographing people, taking her neighbors’ dogs out on adventures, geocaching, or making the cutest stuffed animals with her fluffy kitties.
