Shotgun Wedding

Cyrus’ fake engagement to Michael takes a turn for the worst when Michael is photographed doing some very provocative things at a local gay bar. Olivia decides that it is in their best interest to announce the wedding will take place at the White House with Mellie hosting, showing her stance on the same-sex marriage debate. As Olivia plans this fake fairytale wedding who shows up but everyone’s favourite living ex-VP Sally Langston who happens to have her own talk show The Liberty Report. She calls the wedding a shame and offers money to whoever can prove her right. While OPA looks into the Sally Langston problem, Elizabeth is sent off to get Michael’s parents to the wedding. Abby discovers that Leo leaked the wedding plans to Sally Langston, god their relationship is twisted.

Olivia learns that Sally has found a man to come on her show to reveal the events of Michael’s scandalous evening leaving Cyrus disheveled and thinking about his old relationships. Olivia confronts Sally before she interviews her source, offering the Secretary of State position, but she declines. Olivia and Cyrus decide to throw Michael to the wolves to save his career and do so by setting up a dinner with his parents. However, during the dinner Michael’s parents reveal that they are only there because Elizabeth paid them and they just wanted to fix their son. Michael is broken by this and Cyrus sees this and feels for him. Olivia confronts Sally one last time saying if she destroys Cyrus, then Olivia will destroy Sally’s deceased husband and just like that her mouth was shut. Before the wedding, Michael opens up to Cyrus about how he always dreamed of this day and yet he has nothing. Cyrus reveals he is relieved he is not in love and that they are starting from a point where all lies are on the table. ‘You are not alone.’

Ghosts of Weddings Past

As Cyrus prepares for his marriage to Michael we are shown flashbacks of both of his previous marriages. Between the scenes with his wife Janet and his husband James (who we still miss dearly), we see a huge change in his character. He has gone through a lot since his first marriage and yet there is a similarity in both of these previous marriages. Both had deceit at the centre of it. The first marriage was to cover up his sexual orientation to protect his career, basically putting power over love. The second marriage was to the love of his life, but the B613 files got in the way and caused Cyrus to decide to protect the administration over the man he loved. For that choice it seems Cyrus will be punished to be without love for the rest of his days, but at least he can relate to Michael in some ways that can hopefully make them good parents to Ella.

There’s Still Hope

In a somewhat (un)shocking turn of events flashbacks show scenes between Fitz and Olivia where he gives Olivia his grandmother’s ring, a ring meant for the one he loves. He says that if she wears the ring, then he knows that there is still hope for them. Back to real time where Olivia frantically looks for the ring in her apartment. She visits Fitz, he applauds her for going to Mellie for the wedding plans. At the wedding Fitz and Olivia lock eyes before he looks down and sees she is wearing the ring. WHAT.
