Maybe it’s because I watch too many thrillers, but has anyone else noticed that the person who gets shot is always wearing white? I know it’s a strategic choice by the wardrobe department to better showcase the seeming pool of blood, but it makes me anxious every time I see a character I like in a tense situation wearing a white t-shirt. This time is no different. But they are not the only casualty tonight, someone gets into a bloody car wreck, someone looses their head (literally) and we finally find out the identity of Mary Drake’s second secret child.
It appears that Mary has known all along who her missing child is. She comes to Spencer’s aid, knocking out Jenna before she can finish the job and putting pressure on Spencer’s wound as they wait for the cops. The question I have is why was Mary there in the first place? Was she trailing her daughter in the hopes of keeping her safe? Or is Mary hiding yet another secret? I can understand why she might have kept this knowledge and secret from Spencer, not wanting to drop this bomb on the girl and upheave her life. But if Mary knew who Spencer really was, does that mean that Charlotte knew as well? Could that have been the reason she was killed?
As of now there are still two big unknowns. Who killed Charlotte and who is A.D? It is possible that they are one in the same considering it appears that A.D. and Evil Emoji were two separate entities, Evil Emoji being Jenna and Noel. Let’s go over the characters that are unaccounted for in the final scene. Paige is in Rosewood but was not seen after she stormed away from Emily. Mona and Caleb were last seen at The Radley, but either of them could have traveled out to the blind school to rescue Jenna. There’s the unlikely villain of Sabrina but she has been nothing but sweet to Emily, she is literally one of the only people that the writers have not made us suspicious of, so for right now it doesn’t look like she has anything to do with this. There is also the possibility that someone from the past; someone that shouldn’t be in Rosewood is the real A.D. Perhaps Melissa Hastings or Wren. As of right now the consensus I have been finding online is that Mona is A.D. There was a quote from Marlene saying everything would come full circle. Mona was the first A perhaps she will be the last as well.
In the context of Mona being A.D. the scene where her and Caleb are having coffee on their stake out and pouring each other cream and sugar seems awfully suspicious. It could have been just a funny little add on, or it could be a sign that these two know each other a lot better than anyone thinks. Could they be in cahoots? Could Caleb be seeking revenge after Hanna rejected him all those years ago? That would be quite the twist, almost just as good as one of the liars’ themselves being the bad guy.
Speaking of, I know I was a little off in suspecting a liar was A.D. however, I was right in thinking that having them be a part of the twist would make for a great surprise. Spencer being Mary’s daughter came straight out of left field and hit us like a cannonball. I had been so focused on it being Aria since the initials matched that is didn’t occur to me that it could have been another liar. The Hastings family is much more complicated than we thought. Peter had an affair with Jessica and fathered Jason, he also had an affair with Mary and fathered Spencer, making Jason and Spencer half siblings and well as cousins (ew). Does this mean that Veronica knew who Spencer’s biological mother was? What about Melissa? Does she have some crazy secret past? Could she be A.D.? Or does Spencer being Mary’s daughter have no more significance than being a misdirect and shocking revelation?
I saw someone on tumblr say “Noel Kahn is the only death on this show we can be sure of” and I completely agree. Since we have seen his head get sliced off his body and roll down the hallway I think we can safely say Noel is dead. As for Toby, Yvonne and Spencer we will have to wait for the 7B premiere in April 2017. Until then we have plenty of time to come up with an endless amount of theories who the hooded A.D. could be.
