Elliott is evil! That’s not really much of a surprise. Although he is slightly more evil and more British than I anticipated. The surprises keep on coming though. The twin twist is revealed to be Mary Drake, Jessica DiLaurentis’ twin sister and Charlotte’s biological mother. Huh. Well I guess that makes as much sense as anything else on this show. I have one question. When did Pretty Little Liars turn into a soap opera?
Somehow all the couples have found their way back to each other. Spencer and Toby are breaking in to Radley’s secret room together. Hanna and Caleb are setting Hanna’s blackmail bluff into effect. Ezra and Aria are writing a book about Ezra’s recently deceased ex. Now 2/3 couple have rekindled their romance. Ezria’s accidental celebration kiss turned into reunion sex. Which lasted a little bit longer than I think a show on ABC Family should. Has anybody else noticed how graphic this show has gotten? Caleb getting out of bed, clearly naked and then Spencer just in panties that barely leave anything to the imagination. ABC Family doesn’t seem too family friendly anymore. Haleb also share a steamy kiss after Hanna admits that the night of their breakup she went back for Caleb. Apparently this is enough information to make him forget about Spencer immediately and the fact that she just said ‘I love you’ that morning. I feel so bad for Spencer. You could see that she saw Caleb being pulled back to Hanna. I could tell that every time she saw the two together, the subtle touches and glances that just came as a reflex hurt her. She probably also feared that a rekindling of their romance would happen and the fact that she let herself say ‘I love you’ was her finally letting herself fully commit to the relationship. For Spencer Hastings who is always in control always has a plan, this is a big deal.
I am slightly disappointed that the writer’s couldn’t fully commit to these new relationships. Why can’t Hanna be happy with Jordan? With doesn’t Aria love Liam more than Ezra? Why does Caleb still want to be with Hanna? I know these are all iconic couples and we would love to see them all get back together but it seems very unrealistic that everyone gets back together at the exact same time. Never mind now Caleb, Hanna, and Aria are all cheaters. Just because we don’t know Liam and Jordan that well doesn’t mean that I would like to think of Aria and Hanna as cheaters. I don’t want to think they don’t value their relationships as much as they should. Hanna is engaged! One random spur of the moment reunion would have been one thing and would have made sense, but two in the same episode seems a bit pushy. Like all of the changes the girls have gone through and all of this character development was for nothing and the writers want to end it back with the teenagers we knew from earlier seasons. Commit to your decisions, have Spencer and Caleb end up together, have Hanna happily married to Jordan and let viewers know that their grown up selves are most likely going to be a lot different than their teenage selves. And that’s ok. You shouldn’t expect to end up with your first love, or your high school sweetheart. It all just seems too picture perfect and made for TV. But I shouldn’t really expect more from this show.
From the beginning I thought Dr. Rollins was a little off. Every scene he was in just made him too likeable, too perfect. He was Alison’s prince charming and that’s what made me suspicious of him. However I did not in a million years think that he would turn out to be Charlotte’s secret lover in cahoots with her biological mother and only pretending to love Alison to gain power over her shares in the Carassimi group. I thought he was going to be some kind of evil psychologist messing with Alison’s mind. This works too, it just seems very Passions. You know that old soap opera with the witch and the puppet. Anyways, it appears that we have discovered who Evil Emoji is. We know they loved to use masks, most likely because everyone already knew their faces, and with Elliott revealing himself underneath the Wilden mask it is safe to assume it was most likely him underneath the rest of the creepy masks.
But then why did we not see the face of the person dragging Hanna to the bell tower? Was it just an artistic choice by the director of photography? Or could it be that the real mastermind is still out there? Granted we did see Mary at the scene of Hanna’s kidnapping but perhaps she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Or perhaps who we saw was really Mrs. DiLaurentis herself. I am still not convinced that she is really dead. I am sure that there are going to be many more twists and turns in the final season to come. So what if one of them is that Elliott and Mary were solely concerned with getting Alison out of the picture so that they could take over the Carassimi group. We still don’t know what Sara is up to. It’s possible that she is working with Mary and Elliott. She could be the one do all of the dirty work, the one who is about to throw Hanna off of the bell tower. But this reveal still leaves so many unanswered questions. Who killed Mrs. D (if she is actually dead)? How does Bethany Young fit in to all of this? Why did no one know about Mary? With only one season left I have no idea how the writer’s plan to tie up all of these loose ends.
