As the search for Charlotte’s killer heats up the girls fall back into old habits.
Just like Toby said “We have to force ourselves to remember we aren’t the same people we once were”. He’s trying to convince himself to not fall for Spencer all over again and propose to Yvonne Phillips like he planned. Something tells me that isn’t going to go quite as smoothly as he hopes. Things will only become more complicated now that Caleb is in the tangled web that is the Spoby relationship. Spencer and Caleb have now slept together, but before they can have the morning after conversation of ‘what does this mean?’ or change their relationship status on facebook Spencer sees the Red Devil text and has to rush out before then can talk. They decide they both like where this is headed, as long as it doesn’t interfere with Spencer’s caffeine addiction, but they both need to make sure their respective best friends are ok with them dating. So Caleb goes to see Toby and confess his feelings while Spencer checks in with Hanna to make sure she hasn’t changed her mind. Everyone says they are ok with this relationship but Toby seems to be struggling. He has to make sure that Spencer plans to leave Rosewood and go back to DC. Most likely he is still in love with her and the only thing keeping them apart (in his mind) is the distance. If she was to come back to Rosewood and would be happy staying there he would fight for her.
Opposite to Toby, Hanna seems perfectly content to let Spencer have Caleb since she has sexy fiancée Jordan. A man she has kept nothing from, until now. With Jordan Hanna feels safe and secure she doesn’t ‘spin or twirl’. Whether this is exactly what Hanna needs or will ultimately end up boring her we will only know with time. But for the foreseeable future it looks like it will only be a love square between Yvonne, Toby, Spencer and Caleb while Hanna and Jordan fly off into the sunset in their private jet.
The new A seems more hell bent on finding Charlotte’s murderer than tormenting the girls. Which still makes me think it’s Alison, especially since she was ‘out of town’ this episode. The girls actually receive multiple texts telling them to confess to who committed the murder. They even send the girls a picture of the supposed murder weapon, a nine-iron golf club. Whether or not this is actually the murder weapon or a clever trick meant to ensnare the girls deeper into the case isn’t clear. But it does set them questioning whether Ezra’s missing a certain club. Unfortunately for them Ezra has left the city. Sabrina (his coffee shop manager) says that he does this all the time, reappearing after a few days of brooding. Although she wouldn’t call him dark and brooding more “dark and depressed”.
So of course Aria needing to know the answer convinces Emily to distract Sabrina while she steels the key to Ezra’s loft to investigate. See? These girls can’t stop being who they one were. They should know that following A’s clues, keeping secrets from the cops, and breaking the law in the hopes of discovering some life-changing clue isn’t the best option. It didn’t work out too well the last time and they are not dealing with the same A as before. It’s time for a more grown up response then amateur sleuthing and petty crimes. Either way Aria finds Ezra’s nine iron securely in his golf bag however before she can even let out the breath she has been holding she hears a voice mail from her father on his answering machine. Byron states “ I need to talk to you about what you think you saw that night”. Could this be the reason Ezra won’t tell Aria where he was the night of Charlotte’s murder? We know Aria thinks this means her dad is somehow involved in Charlotte’s death but it’s more likely that he was doing something he wants to be kept a secret and that Ezra caught him in the act. It probably has nothing to do with Charlotte’s death at all, but just another mystery to add to the pile to distract and confuse us. What we need to be focusing on is who is this mysterious person that keeps dressing up as this creepy old man, impersonating mail carriers and bellhops?
