Seeing the new A throwing out the black hoodie and gloves signifies a shift. From the old A ,the old storyline, to this new updated version. The characters have grown up, are dealing with adult problems now, like marriage, hormone injections and murdered girlfriends (well I guess Emily beat Ezra to that, but still). We are seeing a much darker more adult version of PLL. I like all of the subtle (and not so subtle) parallels to the previous seasons however it will get old fast. If the time jump storyline follows the same exact patterns as before but with different characters it wont be as interesting. I like that there is a new dead girl, a new determined detective, a new A. However the story itself needs to be more interesting than just following the steps the previous mystery set up.
The Ezria bond is still strong. Even when she thinks he may have murdered someone Aria is still putting Ezra before her friends and even before herself. “I will lie for you […] I know you did it to protect me”. Not only is she willing to lie to her friends and the police so that she can protect Ezra but she is also lying to her boss and her boyfriend by writing the next chapters of his book. She is putting Ezra before herself, before her career. Her editor loved those chapters and they came from her not Ezra. She could be furthering her career as a writer but instead she does it to help Ezra. Does she feel guilty because she believes he killed for her? Or does she still love him and is unable to be with him because of what happened to Nicole and the grief he is going through? Which he isn’t dealing with in the most productive way, by getting hammered in and breaking chairs apparently. I know your girlfriend was murdered Ezra but Emily dealt with Mia’s death a lot better than you are. Pull it together man!
After Melissa points out that Spencer “ likes to shop out of other people’s carts” Spencer starts worrying about her relationship with Caleb and how it will affect Hanna. Good news, Hanna gives Spencer her blessing to set sail on the good ship Spaleb. Grab the champagne and let’s christen this vessel in the name of things I never wanted to see. Although the chemistry is there that couple still freaks me out. Maybe it’s because I am still invested in Spoby and Haleb but whatever the reason I can’t quite get behind this union. They just don’t fit together in my head. Maybe a few more episodes of them being adorable with them supporting each other and their witty banter and I will jump on board that ship. But until then I will stay firmly planted here on land awaiting the iceberg that is Toby to send that ship sinking into the deep dark sea.
Emily is juggling way too many things and trying to hide them all. While taking secret hormone injections to donate her eggs so that she can make some cash after flunking out of college and blowing her inheritance, avoiding the ever-watching eyes of Sarah Harvey, and concealing it all from her mother Emily finally makes a mistake. Somehow while she sneaks away to stab her thigh with a needle she forgets to shut the bathroom door and conveniently Hanna is walking by right at the moment that Emily, position directly in the crack of the slightly ajar door is injecting herself. Hanna is able to talk her into giving up the details of her complicated life. By the way speaking of Sarah Harvey why is she so upset at the girls? What happened to her sucked but she was the one planting the bomb, and the reason her hands are so messed up is because she stuck her hand into some live wires as she was getting up after Emily gave her a much deserved punch to the face. How is this the Liar’s fault? Unfortunate yes but after everything you did to them how could you expect them to put their lives in danger by trying to detach you from live electrical wires? Girl you are on your own! I would not risk getting electrocuted from a bomb that my tormentor planted in order to kill me just to save her. In all fairness I think Emily is just being paranoid after everything and Sarah is just trying to live her gloved life. She is stuck in Rosewood after Charlotte’s murder and it’s a small town. We have seen her at the spa of her hotel, not suspicious considering she probably has nothing else to do. Seen her eating lunch on a bench in a public place, everybody’s got to eat. Sarah is another red herring just like Ezra, mark my words.
I think the new A is going to be Alison. Now hold on, follow me on this one. No I don’t think Alison killed Charlotte but I think she believes the Liar’s did (or are covering for who did) and she is going to pick up the tactics of her deceased sister to try and make them confess. We will probably find out that Red Devil is Alison at the next finale and the remainder of the show will be devoted to discovering who the murderer is. This is at least my hypothesis at this time. We didn’t see Ali this entire episode, and the closing scene was of someone in A’s lair, amongst all of their belongings, throwing out the iconic black hoodie and gloves. Who else would have access to all of these things? Sarah, maybe, but that’s too obvious. Either it’s another partner that we haven’t discovered or it’s one of the DiLaurentis children. It could easily be Alison or Jason taking revenge on the death of their long lost sister.
