Pretty Little Liars 6×09 ‘Last Dance’ The Barn Prom

Team Mom unites after the gallery debacle to protect their daughters’ by throwing them a prom in a barn. But it’s not like a BARN barn, it’s the Hastings barn, which got a major facelift from the last time all of the liars were in it. Anyone else find it a little insensitive for Team Mom to expect the girls to not be a little freaked out having a party in the barn again? The last time they did they were drugged, knocked out and woke up to a missing friend. This is also the night that kicked off the blackmail, torture, and kidnapping they have been experiencing for the past couple years. Just because you redecorated doesn’t mean I would want to step foot back in there.

Either way Team Mom does a terrible job at protecting their babies, as they decide to pop open the wine and start snooping around the DiLaurentis house. Apparently getting drunk and staring at the hole where Mrs. DiLaurentis was dug up is too much for poor Veronica Hastings. She can’t deal with the fact that Jessica not only slept with her husband but also ruined her perfect lawn, and now every time she looks in the backyard she is reminded of her husband’s betrayal. Anyone else thinking MOTIVE? I mean we still don’t know who killed Jessica. Or Mrs. Cavanaugh for that matter. Anyways after the women break into the DiLaurentis residence the come face to face with Rhys Matthews, who claims to be there to discuss the Carassimmi Group with Kenneth. After he makes a hasty retreat Ella remarks that she thinks they just met Charles. Team Mom is acting so much like the Liars here it’s like fast forwarding into the future. I found it very cool to see the same dynamic but with the older women, the four of them barging in somewhere with no real plan and getting themselves in trouble.

As the women are locked in the basement of Ali’s house she heads off to get a brother sister dance at the prom. Which actually turned out a little better than I expected. She is lured into a secluded spot and a black gloved hand does grab her from behind but she isn’t knocked out or kidnapped yet, in fact it looks like the hooded figure reveals their face to Ali. Whether or not this means they are still going to kidnap and murder her we have no idea. I guess that’s what the finale is for.

Did anyone else think that way too many people were acting overly suspicious this episode? Caleb disappears to New York without a concrete explanation and conveniently shows up back at the prom with a wonderful story about getting a job in New York that will pay for Hannah’s schooling as well as a place for them to live. I want to believe Caleb because I like him and I like Haleb and that sounds like a wonderful life for the two of them. But he is just one of the secondary characters that surprisingly shows up for prom. Sarah originally said she couldn’t make it to Emily’s prom but then appears at the Rosewood prom. Is this to distract Emily? Maybe the girls following Ali to the prom wasn’t part of the plan and Charles called Sarah to tell her to get her butt down there and get rid of one of the girls. Lorenzo as well originally said he wouldn’t be attending the Barn Prom, but suddenly he turns up too. How did all of these people know the girls were at the real prom? Should we just assume they all popped by the barn and seeing it empty just took a chance and came to the real prom. What if the girls just wanted some McDonalds? It just seems a tad bit suspicious that all the people that could still be suspects show up at the prom. Although one suspect I think we can probably rule out is now Clark, who has been revealed as an undercover cop. So most of his suspicious questions and behaviors can be attributed to him trying to do his job by getting in close with the girls to keep them safe.

I recently read a theory that pointed out that everything started ‘that night’. You know the one, where Alison was attacked and buried alive, the liars were drugged and woke up to find their friend missing, and poor Bethany Young lost her life. It was pointed out that the big event of that night was that a girl was killed. Come to find out this girl had a lot of connections. She was in Radley with Charles, she knew Alison’s mother, who had an affair with her father, and she was wearing the same outfit as Alison that night. Maybe all of this started because of Bethany.

Perhaps part of Charles’ revenge is because of Bethany’s death. Maybe Alison set her up to die, to cover her own escape that night, and maybe Charles, already hating Alison for getting him sent to Radley now hates her because she orchestrated the death of one of his friends. Red Coat could also possibly be the sister or family member of Bethany; this could be how they tie in. Perhaps the liars are being punished because of the part they played that night. They still don’t remember what happened. Emily and Spencer have had brief glimpses of a girl in yellow, this could have been Ali like they thought, or it could have been Bethany. Perhaps in their drugged state they were coerced to, or did something to poor Bethany. And now Red Coat and Charles are out for revenge.

Speaking of Red Coat. One of the most obvious suspects all along has been Cece Drake. She appeared out of nowhere and there has been lots of evidence linking her to Alison as well as to that night. Also in a flashback she was shown to have been wearing a similar yellow top that night. The fact that her and Ali looking strikingly similar has always been apparent to us, so has the link between Bethany and Alison’s appearance. Perhaps there is some link to the three blonde haired, yellow top wearing girls. Could CeCe be related to Bethany? There are still too many unanswered questions to know anything for sure. But upon reading this theory I thought it raised a lot of good points. We still haven’t seen Bethany’s face. There has to be a reason for that. Maybe she has a twin that we have already been introduced to. Perhaps she isn’t dead after all. We have seen a fair number of people come back from the dead on this show. Hopefully we will learn another part of the puzzle in next week’s finale.
