Person of Interest 4×17 ‘Karma’: What goes around comes around

POI 4x17.1

Look another filler episode! Now I’m not complaining about these standalone arcs as they tend to be fun and give us that Person of Interest mix of action and dark humour the fans love. However, I do miss seeing one of the better anti-heroes on TV. Can Elias come back soon? I know Enrico Colantoni is busy with his other show, but we need more Elias in our lives! I will sit hear patiently waiting for either showdown to happen, but if the next few episodes have absolutely nothing to do with what is going on in the Samariverse (yes that is a new word, and yes it will catch on) then I will be very disappointed. Team Machine deals with a vigilante who uses some very unique methods, let’s jump into “Karma.”

This episode’s POI is Doctor Shane Edwards (guest star Patrick Kennedy, Boardwalk Empire), a therapist who helps his patients by moonlighting as a vigilante and framing their wrong-doers. Edwards started this lifestyle after his wife was murdered by delivery guy Wyatt Morris, and after he was released from prison Edwards decided to set him up to be convicted for life. Team Machine is divided on the morality of Edwards actions. Finch is the voice of reason while Reese and Fusco dive into their old mentalities believing that Edwards is justified in setting up Morris so long as he does not harm him. As the team watches the perpetrator carry out his plan it is really hard not to question if Morris is really guilty. Definitely took a long look at morality after watching this. In the end Team Machine intervenes and stops Edwards from his vigilante ways. No conclusion to the fate of Morris, other than the Machine searching up information on him, or the fate of Edwards. Just like him we get no closure.

No real secondary storyline, just a flashback to Finch dealing with the death of his friend Nathan Ingram. Finch decides to plant a bomb in Alicia Corwin’s car (guest star Elizabeth Marvel, House of Cards), but in the end decides not to kill her when he overhears what she says about Nathan. After dealing with the current number’s situation Reese opens up to Iris during their sessions, explaining that he still is not over the loss he endured.

  • Where is Root?
  • When will Shaw return? What is Greer’s plan for her? What will Team Machine’s reaction be?
  • Will Edwards story conclude in another episode? Will he help Team Machine later?
  • Who will win between Elias and Dominic?
