Grey’s Anatomy 11×03 ‘Got to be Real’ : “Your junk; spectacular!”

OK, so here we have one of those episodes that I love, but I also hate. The one with the rising action.  Everything is building for (almost) everyone, which generally means a lot of bad behavior, yelling, and finishing the episode with (almost) everyone pretty p*ssed off.  I knew this was coming, and I’m excited for what comes after, but I always hate these episodes.  I feel like everyone is just spouting their emotions and not behaving well and not being reasonable…and I also feel like that is pretty realistic.

So, Maggie Pierce dropped a bomb on Meredith Grey and now she is dealing with it.  She and Alex seem to really be coming together in this episode.  Honestly, I think I’m happy about that.  I like them as “persons”.  I did a marathon of Grey’s this summer and I grew to like Alex all over again.  It took a little less time the second time around.  I see his value a lot, and I think he has often been handled as superfluous to the show.  Watching this episode made me realize how much Yang overshadowed everything.  I’m thinking her departure from the show will create room for other characters to really blossom into interesting story lines.  As well as Meredith handling the Maggie situation, Weber was finally brought into it.  Now everyone knows everything.  I think Meredith handled the potential for betrayal well.  She was very understanding of Weber’s position, and I liked that.  Maggie, on the other hand, was a total jerk at the end.  Ugh.  I wanted to hit her!  But then I had to remember that being adopted is probably a really big deal and there are probably a lot of feelings, so I’m trying to be understanding.  I’m working not to hate Maggie outright, but this episode didn’t help her.

Arizona and Callie are a hot mess, as usual.  I’ve done my fair share of hating Arizona over the seasons, but Callie often reacts badly and assumes the worst.  Neither one of them communicates well, and I just don’t like them as a couple.  Does everything have to be that much work?  Why can’t they just agree on something?  I am loving this new road for Hunt, Avery, and Callie to work together.  I do feel that Hunt has been developing in the shadow of Yang, so I’m happy to see him have something to go for.  I want to see these three work together and create some magic…I think the show keeps having these possible story lines of groundbreaking work and a lot of the longer, medical stories have fallen by the wayside.  Maybe they’ll stick to something here and we can see how these three can work as a team, be characters outside of romantic relationships.  That would be interesting.

I’m over the Shepherd situation.  Derek needs to back off of his sister and get over his own decision.  I see he and Meredith having a rough time this season.  I hope he and his sister can work together and support each other and be a team.  I’d like to see them getting along.  I’m over the hurt, kid sister story line.  I’d also like to see Jo and Edwards have something going for them other than occasionally contributing to someone else’s story.  Also, what’s happening with Kepner?  Isn’t she pregnant?  I’d like to see her contribute more than a few lines each episode.

How did you feel about this episode?  Are you excited for all the pending drama or totally over it?  Do you agree with The Board’s decision to make Bailey a member?  Do you like Geena Davis as Arizona’s boss?  Let me know in the comments!

She’s really into watching tv shows via Netflix or Hulu Plus…particularly Netflix, because watching shows in succession with no commercials is awesome. (She believes Netflix and other like services will eventually replace live tv.) When not watching tv, she’s training for a marathon, photographing people, taking her neighbors’ dogs out on adventures, geocaching, or making the cutest stuffed animals with her fluffy kitties.
