Grey’s Anatomy 10×21 ‘Change of Heart’ : “What’s the point of anything?”

Source : ABC

This season is winding down and the commercials are getting all foreboding for Cristina Yang’s departure from Grey-Sloan Memorial hospital.  As underwhelmed as I have been since the big wedding cliffhanger, this episode actually had a lot of meat to it.  We’re finally starting to see some resolution to some ongoing story lines, which is making me very happy.  Also, there was some really amazingly awful news for Cristina Yang that I think will become the catalyst to her exit from the hospital and Sandra Oh’s subsequent departure from the show.

Arizona and Callie : Are mostly boring.  There’s some baby talk and a sort of funny bit in the O.R. where Callie plays a trick on Jo.  For Arizona, there is also a really beautiful little speech encouraging Karev to make the best decision for himself.

Derek and Meredith : UGH!  They have an effing DATE NIGHT in the O.R.?  Color me super judgmental because that seems really stupid, but hey, to each his own.  Oh, but the way they talked about Derek’s sister taking care of the kids for a day and the freedom they had…well, umm…it sounded like talking about a NANNY!  So you know what I’m going to say, right?  HIRE  A NANNY!  They are so happy right now, it makes me wanna barf.  Although, I did appreciate Meredith having Cristina’s back regarding the loss of the Harper-Avery award…even though she was largely inappropriate about it.  Still, that’s the old Meredith I used to love, the dark and twisty one!

Karev and Jo : So if Karev goes for this awesome job, will he not be on the show as much?  Not that they’ve been doing much of anything with him since his father died, but still.  Karev is one of my fave peeps from the original cast.  I’ve always loved that he was just a total jerk who did what he wanted.  I hope that he’s not planning on ditching the hospital altogether.  As for Jo?  Meh.  So happy and boring!

Avery and April : So now their big fight is becoming a huge deal because April is pregnant?  DRAMA!  I want them to stay together.  I believe what Avery said to her.  That little speech of his hit me right in the feels.  But I’m also sort of nervous that they will become all resentful and passive-aggressive and stuff.  But then again, if they become a happy couple who is as boring as Callie and Arizona or Derek and Meredith, I will probably be right here, whining about it every week.  So what I’m saying is, I don’t know what I want from this plot twist, but I’m EXCITED!

Bailey : Oh man, I am FEELING Bailey right now.  Like, so feeling her situation.  She has been working so hard with that genetic stuff and it is not at all glamorous.  She has not been dragging her drama all around the hospital, because that isn’t her way.  She’s been quietly doing amazing stuff like disabling an HIV virus.  I don’t even know if that’s remotely possible, but it sounds COOL!  And then the parents get all scurred.  Whiny babies!  So Bailey has consent forms, but she has a verbal withdrawal of said consent, but she has a syringe with the virus in it that could cure that kid…CONUNDRUM!  Y’all, what do you think she’ll do?  Because we could have an Izzy-Denny scenario going on here, right?  And I miss that story line!

Webber : Let me tell you how excited I was that he decided to get to the bottom of Cristina’s loss.  Like, I was behind Meredith going off, because I love Yang, but then I also thought maybe whatever, don’t be a sore loser, you know?  Knowing that Cristina never had a chance from the start makes total sense to me and makes me so mad!  I give serious props to The Chief for getting the down low on that situation.  Also, I’m glad he left that ring on her desk and didn’t propose.  That woman is a manipulative liar, and I never liked her!

Cristina and Owen : POOR CRISTINA!  On one hand, I hope this story line with the three kids with the heart issues is finally going to go away.  It has been so annoying to me!  On the other, it makes me sad that Cristina had to make such a tough decision and lost a patient.  I might’ve shed a tear.  I’m glad Owen went to her and told her that she really did win the Harper-Avery and it was all politics.  I think this is the perfect door for her to make her exit…to go to a hospital where she has the chance of gaining the prestige she deserves.  As for Owen…I wonder what will happen.  I think he makes a really great chief, but I also think he really wants to be with Cristina.  WHAT WILL HAPPEN?!?!  That’s what the next few episodes are all about.

In other news, the interns or residents or whatever they are remain forgettable.  They need to get a juicy story line for me to start to remember their names again.  I also could see Karev and Owen leaving the hospital and possibly the show, which makes me a bit nervous.  I don’t know, it’s starting to get exciting again, and I can’t wait to watch the episodes leading up to the finale!  What do you think?  Do you have any predictions for the characters?  Let me know in the comments!
