Glee 5×12 ‘100’: High-school ghosts.

glee-100stills-4

First and foremost “Happy 100th Birthday Glee”. Having been following Glee for 100 episodes now it’s safe to say that there has definitely been some good episodes and some not so good. This episode is deffo up there as a good one in my opinion. They took it back to basics and brought the beloved originals back. Finn/Cory was terribly missed but strangely he was always there in some form or another. Emotional times!

For this week’s review/recap I will divide it into songs rather than plot outline. I feel as if the music/songs were the highlight of the episode and with each song came a certain memory or action or feeling and I loved it.

“Raise Your Glass” – April Rhodes

Task of the week is to revitalize and mix up previously sung songs. So, the Glee Club finally get to sing this song and who better to kick it of than April Rhodes. This fun loving – slightly intoxicated – women brings life into the choir and into Will! The gang is back together to celebrate the Glee Club as it is sadly being cut from the school budget. Of course April brings good news and explains how as long as she’s funding it nothing can happen!

“Toxic” – The Unholy Trinity

aaaaand they’re back! My favorite trio is reunited and reinvents their steamy rendition of Toxic by “Britney Spears”. I’ve missed the original cast so much and I miss the way it used to be. It seriously felt as if I was watching an older episode with older versions of themselves. Quinn brings with her a douche of pretentious boyfriend who knows nothing of her past [as she’s trying to hide it] and Brittany is busy being a mathematician and her dancing skills have apparently slipped according to her.

“Defying Gravity” – Divas [Rachel, Mercedes and Kurt]

It wouldn’t be Glee if we didn’t have a diva off with the oldies. Now Tina has been placed at the back of the class against Mercedes and Rachel sing it out to see who is the best. They both sing Defying Gravity against each other and they’re both good in their own way. Personally I prefer Kurt singing this song and his voice is perfect for it. After an unnecessary Santana rant Rachel is reduced to tears in the girls toilets just like old times saying that no matter what she does or where she goes it’s like she’s always in high school. This scene was so touching for me because whenever Lea Michelle cries I cry [and other reasons]. Mercedes explains that she feels the same but she uses it as a force to drive her forward. Finally the make up and it’s revealed they drew so now can we all go back to being friends.

“Valerie” – ‘Britanna’

Britanny is focusing too much on her genius mathematical mind and not focusing on enjoying herself and doing what she loves – dancing. Of course it has to be Santana who gets her out of this rut and gets her to shake it and wind it down. Santana starts the dance number with Mike Chang and after no time at all Brittany can’t hold it back and she gets up and worrrrrrks it alongside Jake, Santana and Mike. Brittany explains that she loves and misses Santana and she knows she will never love anybody the same as her and then proceeds with a kiss. Santana explains that it has take so long to get over Britanny but the burning love is too strong and we get a Britanna make out moment.

“Keep Holding On” – Noah Puckerman [and New Directions in background]

Puck is an air force pilot with his new itchy uniform and he is still not over Quinn. He’s annoyed by her douche of a boyfriend and explains that Quinn should tell her boyfriend [Biff] about her past. Quinn does but this leads him to calling her a slut and thankfully Puck barges in and delivers an uppercut and tosses him in the trash where he belongs! Puck then takes everybody to the auditorium and serenades Quinn with the song they sung to her when they found out about the baby! It was so emotional in so many ways because it was emosh because Puck was singing to Quinn and Quinn was crying but also there was no Finn and the others still did the same dance but he was missing and you could see it in Rachel’s face! After being reminded about her past and a chat with Puck about Finn; Quinn decides she does love Puck and she tells him to stay and they kiss!

“Happy” – Holly Holiday and everybody else.

Whilst all this reminiscing is going on – Sue and Becky are scouring Wikipedia and discover that April’s money has been frozen for many bizzare reasons and the Glee Club will be closing down after all. This leaves Will feeling like shit because April gave him hope and then it was snatched away. To make up for it she invites the life and soul of the party through a I’ve-sung-in-the-glee-club Facebook page! Holly comes along and performs a fun version of Happy with everyone in the choir room – just like the good old days!

To end the episode Will takes everyone to the auditorium and they pay a tribute to Finn and place his plaque in the auditorium and there it will stay forever. He gives his touching speech about sharing his experience with everybody present and how they’re a little family all supporting each other. Of course by now everybody is in tears along with many viewers [me being one of them]. It’s not all sad though because we see a snippet of April and Holly proclaiming how they won’t let Will loose this battle and he will have the Glee Club!
