I know Chicago PD doesn’t focus that much on character development, the main focus being the cases and how the characters react to them. However from the minute Kenny Riggston walked onto our screen he has been a bit of a mystery. They have always alluded to his mysterious past. I suppose there is always some form of mystique associated with the ‘new kid’ especially when he seems as tight lipped as Riggs.
We have seen some possibly questionable behavior out of him before. He has lied to Voight and protected a gang leader which doesn’t really shine him in the best light. So it is understandable that when a rumor circulates that Riggston’s old team is being indicted and all the members of his squad but him are being investigated it leads the Intelligence team to wonder if Riggs is a rat and if they should trust him in their family. After all, they don’t always do everything by the book. Sometimes lines can get blurred, things can become a little shady, and not everything is executed to the letter of the law. In circumstances like these you would want to be confident that every member of your team has your back. But it looks like it’s Riggston who should be worried.
After Jay publicly apologizes to Kenny for starting up all the drama Voight announces the reason why Kenny isn’t going down with the rest of his squad. Not only was it a slightly understandable crime (I mean they didn’t murder anyone or steal anything) but Kenny wasn’t there and didn’t snitch. That’s why he isn’t getting indicted. Voight kept this information secret because he didn’t want to distract the team during an active investigation, as well as wanting to test their character. Turns out Riggston has faced this problem with teams before. Once they hear a rumor they ice him out. Hank wanted to see if his squad was any better. I guess they passed, but just barely. At least they came around in the end.
But with Ruzek returning will Riggston still have a place with the Intelligence team. After all he was brought in due to Adam’s absence. Speaking of absence, don’t they say it makes the heart grow fonder? Guess it’s true since as soon as Kim sees Adam they are making out in the middle of the street outside of the police station. Will Voight be ok with two couples in his unit? Or was this kiss just a momentary slip? Is Burzek even back together?
