Lindsay and Burgess team up for some lady cop shenanigans, Platt gets schooled by Roman and does Jay have a new love interest that could threaten Linstead?
Roman has applied to be a training officer. He wants to mold the young minds of Chicago’s next boys and girls in blue. Platt thinks he’s just in it for the money and she takes rookie training very seriously and rightfully so! If you are going to give someone a gun and a badge then you better have someone training them properly and not just phoning it in for some extra cash. She decides that in order to assess if Roman qualifies for the job she is going to ride along with him as Cadet Trudy Platt, who just wants to make the world a better place. At first she seems unimpressed at Roman’s attempts to act in charge and instructional as he keeps making statements that end in questions, but that is probably just because he doesn’t want to offend his commanding officer.
By the time they are mid ride Roman turns up the heat, quizzing Trudy rapid-fire style. He role-plays that he has been shot and quizzes her on their location, the nearest hospital and the description of the hypothetical shooter on the corner. He actually seems to have Platt a little rattled, most likely because she has been behind a desk for years and is a little out of practice, but she matches his questions with rapid fire answers. That is until Roman asks about the suspect’s shoes. She doesn’t have an answer for him, to which Roman informs her that when it comes to a suspect’s description the shoes can be just as if not more important than the coat they are wearing, a coat you can easily ditch but the shoes are much harder to get rid of. Platt seems impressed and Roman seems pretty pleased with himself since he dons his shades and tells Platt she’s buying lunch. I like seeing Trudy in the field more. Really I just love Platt and I am happy when she gets more than just a few lines in an episode. I am desperately waiting for the day when they will write a flashback episode where we can see a young Alvin Olinsky, Hank Voight and Trudy Platt all in their uniform blues. What I wouldn’t give for a little bit more backstory!
I was happily surprised to see Charisma Carpenter’s face on my TV screen again. One of the alumni of my favorite show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, popped up on screen to offer Halstead a job working security at her medicinal marijuana shop. Mouse apparently hooked up her security system and hooked up his buddy with an after hours job. But I think his new employer has some other after hours hook ups in mind for Jay. On his first shift she tells him that she’ll be working late too and if he needs anything she’ll be in her office. Could Cordelia Chase want to break up Linstead? Or is Jay in store for the ordeal Antonio went through when he picked up an after hours security job? Either way you know with the arrival of a fairly well known actress that some drama is lined up.
Roman and Burgess are out on the streets preforming random car spot checks when Burgess discovers a mild mannered 61 year old professor transported heroin over the border to Canada. I don’t know if this is what they were looking for or if it was just a surprise but now we have this week’s case to solve. Since Burgess was the one to find the drugs Lindsay argues that she should be able to follow this case through. Voight agrees as long as she knows it’s just a one-time deal. His feelings are still hurt since she turned him down. I think Lindsay wants to give Kim a bit of a boost. She knows that Burgess is going through a tough time after her breakup with Ruzek, which by the way I am happily surprised the split has lasted this long, although I do hope they end up getting back together because they are so cute. Anyways I think Lindsay knows that Burgess needs a win. So the girls team up to hunt down some drug dealers.
In the process of tracking down the culprits the girls do some bonding. Kim tells Lindsay that she is worrying about the toothbrush she left at Ruzek’s. Should she just leave it there, because then there’s no closure? Should she go take it back, because then he might think she still cares? Really it’s not about the toothbrush, the toothbrush is a symbol and Erin know this, she replies ‘just get a new one’. Erin knows that Kim just needs to move on. If she really wants to be done with Adam then she needs to make a clean break and be done with it. So Erin buys Kim a new toothbrush and presents it to her at Molly’s after the case is solved. Sylvie Brett from Chicago Fire and Sarah Reese from Chicago Med join our girls for a drink. Either it’s ladies night at Molly’s or these girls are forming their own Women’s Murder Club. Fellow book nerds might have also been reminded of James Patterson’s iconic novels where a police officer, medical examiner, district attorney and journalist team up to solve crime. As soon as I saw these four women sat around the same table I immediately had the thought of the four of them teaming up and I had to giggle. That is certainly a show I would tune in to watch. Maybe we’ll get yet another spin off with lots more crossover potentials.
