Chicago PD 2×14 ‘Erin’s Mom’ Can’t teach an old Bunny new tricks

Chicago P.D.

Bunny’s at it again. Just when you think she has turned her life around and is just trying to be a good Samaritan you find out she’s been in bed with the bad guys all along.

The ending of last episode saw Bunny coming to Erin with a possible murder suspect. Her new hubby owns a moving company which rents out moving vans and Bunny is determined that one of their renters has murdered someone and used their truck as a means to move the body. So even though Erin is not over the moon about seeing her mother she does take the tip fairly seriously and starts to investigate. They track the baddy down and realize they have stumbled upon an ongoing case that robbery-homicide is currently working on. Dawson is reunited with his old vice pal Detective Gina Gawronski, who we’ll get to later. She lets the team know that the bad guy Vosh has been working with a partner robbing cheque cashing places and taking the families of the managers hostage. Jared Meeko is the partner and he is a bad dude. Who ends up murdering the husband and son of the manager of the most recent heist.

Meeko tells Voight and Erin that Bunny has been in on it all along and that she must have turned them in because they refused to pay her any more money for using her trucks. Erin is understandably furious but Voight doesn’t seem surprised. He has been dealing with Bunny as long as he has been in Erin’s life. So when he discovers that the reason she is in cahoots with this week’s baddies is because she owes someone money, he of course makes a trip to his safe. Voight is a good man underneath and I know I’ve said this before but I am starting to really like him. Yes he has his faults, he is a hard man, an imperfect man, and he has done some bad things, but he protects his own and he would do anything for the people he cares about. Erin Lindsay is one of those people. So he pays off Bunny’s debt, the only catch is that she must stay out of Erin’s life. She has only ever brought disappointment and heartbreak to Erin and Hank is trying to protect his surrogate daughter from being hurt again. Of course Bunny accuses Voight of ‘being the better parent’, which he absolutely is. He doesn’t even tell Erin about her mother’s debt or that he is going to pay it. But because he raised such a good cop, she ends up following him and finding out anyways. Hopefully this will be the last we see of Bunny, for Erin’s sake at least. However I doubt that ol’ Bunny will give up that easily.

Nadia is still determinedly walking down the path to becoming a cop. She is lugging around a giant backpack filled with textbooks and working hard to be the best that she can be. I just want to reach through the television and encourage her and tell her how proud I am of her. She takes Bunny’s statement and tells Erin that she was ‘very throughout.’ Erin is completely supportive until she hears that her mother might be prosecuted for her involvement. Erin doesn’t think that an interview conducted by a former junkie should be able to put her mom in jail. This upset me. I get that Erin was just trying to protect her mom, and that she might not necessarily still see Nadia this way but it would completely crush Nadia to hear Erin say this. She is trying so hard to be a better person, to chase her dreams and her dreams are to be just like Erin. Lindsay was once a junkie until Voight stepped in and gave her a future, a role model, and a goal to work towards. Now Nadia is coming from the same background and working towards the same goal as Erin once did herself and it upsets me to think that an offhanded comment like that from her role model could cause Nadia to abandon her dreams altogether. I’m glad that Nadia also has Platt to look up to. I can’t help but make a parallel between Platt and Nadia and Voight and Erin. Platt has taken a liking to Nadia and is even offering her rides to the library to study. I can’t wait to see this friendship and mentorship develop further. It’s a fun dynamic.

Now on to the sexy part of this week’s round up. For once I will not be talking about Linstead! Although they did have some adorable, slightly sexy banter during a stakeout. However Dawson is the one getting lucky tonight. When they stumble onto a robbery-homicide case he is reunited with his old Vice pal Gina Gawronski who invites him out for drinks once he has wrapped the case. They end up reminiscing about old times, including the night where Dawson came on to Gina, which she answered with a drink to the face. Apparently it was just to keep up appearances and play the part because this time Gina answers his advances head on and the two end up sleeping together. It’s not as sexy as the Linstead sex scene but I’m glad Antonio is seeing some action.

Must people compare EVERY SINGLE THING to Linstead? Okay first of all Linstead was a LONG time coming and we saw the characters progress together for 2 years, antonio and Gina had just ONE EPISODE. So I don’t think it’s right to slam Antonio’s and Gina’s love scene.

i didn’t slam it at all. I agree we didn’t get to see the development that Antonio and Gina had like we did with Lindsay and Halstead, which could be why I wasn’t as invested in their union. But it could also be because I don’t really find either of them as attractive as Linstead, just my personal preference :)
