Agents of SHIELD 1×05 Girl in the Flower Dress’: They gave him a name…

source ABC

This episode gave me exactly what I thought I wanted from this show. People with super powers! We’re treated to a street magician in Hong Kong wowing tourists with his alleged street magic, only to find that it isn’t an illusion. He has POWERS. I almost squealed. They even give him the best of all back-stories. It was radiation or something. We’re then treated to the delight of him showing a young woman up to his room. Sadly I was willing to believe he could shoot fire out of his hands, but a street magician is gonna have to work a little harder than that to get laid. Honestly. That being said, of course, she is the eponymous girl in said flower dress, and proceeds to kidnap him in an unkindly fashion. Thats why I only internet date, then you KNOW what you’re getting. As a side note, he badmouths Houdini and that upsets me, because he’s one of the greatest de-bunkers, illusionists, and escape artists to ever grace the stage. Moving on. We’ve all had worse dates.

Ming-Na “The Cavalry” Wen is done with her Tai-chi (really?) and Skye is working on her strategy by playing Battleship with Agent “The Prettiest Face This Side of the Rockies” Ward, and casually comments on how its better than a work-out. What she doesn’t realize is its a workout for the *mind*. You’re welcome for that insight readers. The team is alerted to a kidnapping of a super powered individual and we’re headed off to Houston to track him down, because Skye sort of knows who it is. Or how they can find him. When they get there we are treated to one of my favorite things: Totally-nonchalant-Coulson. TNcC (trademark).  We also get to see Skye come out of the woodwork as knowing this guy and totes being a double agent. I’m just super glad we aren’t holding our breath for that one. I prefer it when we just get to things and progress and the show isn’t letting me down here. We’re treated to a totally gratuitous bra shot, they’re taken in in cuffs, bing-bang-boom.

Meanwhile they give an unstable glory seeking nobody a big dose of super-hero-in (you see what I did there?) and it makes him feel powerful and needed and not want to run away from the people that kidnapped him at all because of course not. The alpha kidnapper even gives him a name. Scorch. Because that’s not evil at all is it? He ends up totally losing it and he ends up eventually killing one of my favorite character actors Tzi Ma. Who is also awesome. Our villain’s puppet gets all hot and bothered when they inevitably try and kill him, and the team finally arrives. As it turns out these people had payed the super hacker Skye likes to sleep with a million US dollars to check on one man who happens to maybe hold the key to not exploding all over the place when evil people experiment on you. Hypocrite hacker is sad.
